June 2004, Genting Heights. The battle to the top had
begun for 13 gutsy ladies at the Grand Finals of the Ms
Malaysia Fitness 2004 pageant held at the Grand Ballroom
of the Genting International Convention Centre.
All
13 semi-finalists had undergone an eight-weeks grooming
and training programme. Nutritionists and fitness trainers
were brought in to whip the contestants into shape with
total body conditioning and a multi-dimensional training
package. These included fast and explosive circuit training,
hot and heavy metal pumping and choreographed callisthenics
that has stretched them beyond their limits.
Firing
up the tempo was the Iron Lady Challenge; a programme
with daunting hurdles that amazed and amused the contestants
-abseiling, mountain climbing, bike racing and surviving
the forest with only your will and wisdom. The contestants
shone through in spite of mental and physical exhaustion,
strict diet regimens and having to unlearn bad habits
and re-create themselves. These ladies were indeed the
best the pageant has seen.
It
has been nothing but "hard core, hard work"
that has seen these ladies through. Amidst high hopes
and electrifying adrenaline, they were ready for their
defining moment.
At
the end of the night, Ms May Liew was crowned Ms Malaysia
Fitness 2004. She went on to represent Malaysia at the
Fitnesswoman Asia Pacific Championship held in August
2004 at Singapore.
