The
FitnessWoman Championship is promoted as a sport. It consists
of a series of national, regional and world competitions
aimed at producing world class women who are good looking,
personable, fit, healthy, energetic and creative. These
are ladies who are in control of their own mind, body
and soul and are able to act as good role models to promote
a healthy and fit lifestyle. These champions portray success,
style and a well balanced life. Many of them would have
overcome some handicap earlier in their lives to reach
the top of the fitness pyramid.
The
Championship is owned by the International Fitness Federation
(www.fitnesssport.org), which is based in Europe. This
is not a body building contest. In fact, contestants
with bulky bodies are penalized in the competition.
Championship Fitness is about good-looking, fit and
healthy normal people - the type of person who the 100
million fitness club members are perspiring to become.
Championship
Fitness reflects the aspirational values of "striving
for excellence". It represents quality. It is the
shape of tomorrow.
2004
is the first time the Championship was held in Asia-Pacific.
Fitwinner Pte Ltd had secured the exclusive rights to
hold the FitnessWoman Asia Pacific Championship 2004.
The event was held in Singapore and organized by Reach
Marketing Sdn Bhd. Among the sponsors for FWAPC were
The Singapore Sports Council and Singapore Pools.
The
Contest Format
The
FWAPC 2004 was based on the "best-of-the-best"
(not a nation-versus nation competition) to determine
the ultimate Champion. The contest consists of three
specialized rounds.
1. Beauty Round
Dressed
in evening or formal wear, each competitor gives a short
verbal presentation of herself. The appearance and posture
of the competitor is judged for grace, elegance, style
and attractiveness, whilst the presentation should demonstrate
confidence, character and superior communication skills.
2. Physique Round
Dressed
in swim wear, the competitors are judged on their physique.
Is the body mass and level of body fat within the range
of a normal healthy individual? Are muscles finely toned
and developed to a level consistent with a fit and healthy
lifestyle? Is the overall appearance one of evenness
and balance without extremes? Is the competitor's physique
aesthetically appealing?
3. Free Round
Each
competitor has 90 seconds in which to perform an artistic
free-routine that demonstrates their overall athleticism,
creativity and dynamism. Performed to music, the routine
must contain specific acrobatic, strength, gymnastic
and flexibility / suppleness elements, which when combined
with rhythm and dance forms an image of strength, speed,
agility, flexibility, harmony, freedom and control.
They also demonstrate their showmanship as it is supposed
to an entertaining show.
It
is no wonder that the FitnessWoman World Championship
was once rated the 3rd most watched sporting event on
Eurosport (after the F1 and Figure Skating). It was
watched by some 230 million viewers in over 50 countries.
