While
the female fitness competitions gained such a great
recognition in the last decade throughout the world,
there were hardly any possibilities for man athletes
to try themselves in fitness competitions.
President
of the Hungarian Fitness Federation, than later founder
and president of the International Fitness Federation,
Gerry Hargitai has been promoting Fitness Competitions
since 1994; his organizations from the very beginning
were receiving complaints from male athletes in the
neighboring countries and in Hungary, for the lack
of opportunities for competing.
As
some countries in Europe began to stage successful
male fitness competitions, the claim for an International
forum grew even stronger.
Seeing
such a big demand, in 1999 Gerry Hargitai has established
the male counterpart of the three round female contests
by the name Fitness Man and the same year the rules
were drawn up and a Fitness Man European Grand Prix
was announced.
On
October 24, 1999 in the presentation of the International
Fitness Federation, at last, the first European male
international fitness competition was brought on stage
in Budapest Hungary.
Much
to the delight of the Hungarian audience who was now
able to see not only the well-known and celebrated
fitness divas but also the talented good-looking male
athletes from such countries around Europe as Spain,
Italy, Yugoslavia, Ukraine and others.
Since
than, Fitness Man competitions proved to be a big
success with the Belgian, Swedish, Romanian, and Ukrainian
audiences as well, where FitnessMan European and World
championships were held in the past years.
Celebrated
European FitnessMan athletes are: Norbert Boros of
Hungary, Sergey Zyk, of the Ukraine, Ognan Lukas of
Macedonia, Peter Bregant of Slovenia.
